Before Abraham was taken prisoner after the battle of the Wilderness he participated in the battle of Bull Run that took place on Sunday morning July 21, 1861. Bull Run Creek was near a railroad center called Manassas Junction. His next battle was at South Mountain.
The battle of Antiedam was the bloodiest single day of the war. It began just outside of Sharpsburg Maryland early on the morning of September 16, 1862. Abraham took part in the battle of Fredericksburg on December 13, 1862 almost three months after the battle of Sharpsburg. On May 3, 1863 a little less than five months after the battle at Fredericksburg, Abraham then fought in the battle at Chancellorville. Last but not least he participated in the battle at Gettysburg. We should all know the history of that battle. There was James W. McLain who was in Co. K 36 infantry. J.M. Pickens who was born in Audrain County South Carolina. |

The tombstone of William Jackson Land at Leasburg Missouri inscribed that he served in the 17th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. His army discharge states he served with the "Wilder Battery Indiana Volunteers". These are just a few of the unsung heroes who fought in the war of the rebellion. We in Crawford County do have a lot to be proud of.
